WHEN THE GOING GETS ROUGH, [[and you feel like you may fall]] Gabe was pretty sure today just wasn't his day.
Sure, no tragedies had found their way to him, but some mishaps definitely did. He woke up in the morning to the neighbors' dog barking and as he rolled over, proceeded to fall onto the floor, banging various parts of his body against various pieces of furniture, and, so he thought anyway, sustaining various bruises. Then, after somehow surviving the journey downstairs, he decided to fix himself a nice bowl of cereal as a reward. And, oddly, it was all going well - until a spider fell out of the box as he was pouring his Captain Crunch, which caused him to shriek like a little girl, knock the cereal onto the kitchen tiles, and endure his sister's laughter as he cleaned up the mess. Embarrassing.
And with fiercely red cheeks, he grabbed a hoodie and ducked out of the kitchen inconspicuously. Being outside was a sort of escape for him. It was like he could go anywhere, like he was totally free. Maybe it was because of the openness the outdoors had. Then again, maybe it was that he really didn't like spiders and there was one in his house now. ... Yeah, probably that.
Gabe lifted his head to look around him. The sun was partially obscured by clouds, which he suspected could mean rain for later. He didn't really mind, though; in fact, he kind of enjoyed the rain, most likely because of all the times he had played in it and his mother had yelled at him to get back inside. Apparently those had been the most rebellious times of his life. He shook his head, cracked a small smile at the thought, and shoved his hands into the pockets of his jeans while walking down the path.
The park was sparsely populated, of course, what with it being rather early in the morning. Two people passed him by, the first he had seen all day, and Gabe plopped down lazily on a swing. With a yawn, he almost regretted getting out of bed at this time, and slumped down to enjoy the quiet for once. It was a rare thing for him. His mother and sister were always engaged in a fight of some sort, mostly over stupid things, and his father spoke every sentence as if he had to project his voice to people standing a mile away. Of course, also being a teenager, Gabe... well, he liked parties, which tended to be sort of, you know, loud.
He swung back and forth idly, the monotony of the noise bothering him a little. Sometimes, honestly, he wondered why kids liked the swings so much. The most they did for Gabe was lull him into a daze. His eyes started to close slightly, but he shook himself awake. God damn spider, ruining his morning. If it wasn't for him... or her, whatever it was, he would be enjoying a bowl of cereal, free of any embarrassment or possible blackmail - the more likely - from his sister. word count 507 credit me... but it's not like there's even anything to credit really. xD notes first gabe post! sorry it took so long, though, i was traveling. Josie had awoken to, once again, a very brightly lit bedroom. She scrunched up her face, rubbing her eyes with the palm of her hands as an attempt to wake herself up. She was a bit more awake after her shower, and trudged back to her room in her towel, her hair a mess, looking for clean clothes. She pulled out the usual: a pair of skinny jeans and a pale green t-shirt that she had gotten from H&M. She slipped on her checkered vans, and not bothering to put on makeup or do much to her hair other than comb it and towel it dry, Josie was out the door with a pair of yellow, plastic sunglasses on her face.
The sun outside was even brighter than in her bedroom. Josie was thankful for her decision to wear sunglasses today. She wished she would have brought her skateboard, but she only realized that would've been a good idea when she had already been walking for about ten minutes. Yawning, Josie switched directions without realizing it, and found herself walking towards the community park. She shrugged, and continued to walk in that direction. She could always sit under a tree and doodle in the sketchpad she always carried around or something, or take pictures of people when they weren't looking.
Glancing towards the swing set, Josie saw a familiar figure in the distance. She squinted, and put her hand on her forehead to shield her eyes from the sun as much as she could. She would've have called out her friend's name, but she wanted to make sure it was actually him before she made an idiot out of herself. Josie made a face, and began walking in Gabe's direction. She'd known Gabe for a bit by this time, and always thought he was a pretty cool guy. He was at least one of the people at Lawrence that she enjoyed talking to. She had to admit, she looked forward to seeing him at school, and seeing him randomly at the park was a nice surprise.
"Hey," Josie said, loudly enough so that Gabe could hear her from a bit away. He'd probably have seen her coming, just from seeing that bright red head of hers, but she figured a greeting was in order. She gave him a small smile and a wave as she approached the swing set. He had a strange look on his face, like he was annoyed with something, and Josie hoped that she wasn't bothering him or making his annoyance worse. Josie took the swing next to him, looking down at her feet which still, after all these years, did not reach the ground. Still, she figured sitting would be better than standing in front of him and looking like an idiot.
word count;; blah. not sure. hope it's enough. credit;; meee notes;; it's cool i've been busy too.

--Gabe continued rocking back and forth, not really even thinking much of anything anymore. The noise had helped him to zone out pretty thoroughly, not even the noises made by passing squirrels and birds, sometimes other people, doing anything to snap him back to reality. However, a voice in the distance somehow managed to accomplish just that. "Hey!", someone had called, and Gabe lifted his gaze to find the source. He pinpointed a petite figure not too far away from him, but still was not totally sure who it was. But soon enough, the familiar head of red hair came into view, bobbing in his direction, and he was a hundred percent sure who the speaker was.
Josie was a friend of his from Lawrence, and from his experience, she was pretty fun to be around. Though she tended to be a bit shy, he two of them had grown to be fairly good friends over the past year or so. As a result, her presence at the park was definitely unexpected, but it was welcome.
He picked up his arm and waved lazily at Josie. "Hey," he called back, nodding his head at her. Admittedly, his boredom had made Gabe glad for company. He smiled sleepily and noticed she was making her way toward him. He relaxed in the swing again, dragging his foot along the dirt to slow himself - not that he had been going that fast anyway. He watched in silence as she took the swing next to him, fishing for something to say. Normally, he would've been able to start a conversation with a fairly low amount of effort, but mornings were just not his cup of tea. Actually, literally speaking, no cup of tea was his cup of tea. Especially not chamomile.
Stupid thoughts, though, he told himself, and raised his eyes to look at her. "What's up?" he said, and the moment it was out of his mouth, he mentally smacked himself. What's up? Of course. What a conversation starter. He nearly shook his head at his predictability, but decided against it. Looking crazy was not exactly up there on his to do list, and he probably already did. Sitting on the swing, most likely talking to himself or at least making some kind of face, wasn't the most normal activity to engage yourself in. Hopefully, though, she knew him well enough by now to know that he wasn't by any means normal... though he supposed really no one in this town was anyway. word count 419... shorter than last time, definitely credit i guess me again, but still not like i did much of anything. notes ahh, took 2 days, but i'm getting kinda settled again. don't have anything to do cause im sick.
